Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Freedom Technique (EFT) is based on an ancient acupuncture system, which affects the way the brain responds to stress and information. It also uses the theory behind exposure therapy.

EFT is commonly thought of as ‘Psychological Acupuncture”, and has been expanded from American psychologist Roger Callahan's original work called Thought Field Therapy (TFT).

By ‘tapping’ with fingers on the upper body and hand meridian points while focusing on a particular event, problem, or thought, you could naturally begin to release the tensions associated with it. As these are all interrelated, different levels of release happen, depending on what the body or mind requires at that time.

Can benefit from issues of abuse, stress, anxiety, depression, phobias, relationship issues, life changes, addictive cravings, and emotional thought patterns.

Scientific Explanation of EFT:

The Amygdala (stress centre) & the Hippocampus (memory centre) both play a role in deciding if something is a threat. Feeling threatened produces a level of stress both in the mind and body. The level is dependent on the situation and what the individual has experienced in the past.

Not only does stress produce unwanted thoughts and emotions, but it also produces a hormone called Cortisol.

Increase in Cortisol =

  • Increase in blood pressure.

  • Disruptive sleep.

  • Increase in blood sugar.

  • Lowering of muscle mass.

  • Lowering of immune function.

  • Increase in abdominal fat.

Research has proven that when we tap on these meridian points of the body, they signal the Limbic System (emotions) to lower arousal of these negative reactions, which calms both the Amygdala and Hippocampus.

  • Calm Hippocampus - when the Hippocampus is calm, you can access clearer decision-making and thoughts, which leads to an increase in creativity.

  • Calm Amygdala - moderates physiological response (body relaxes).

Benefits:

  • It helps to clear negative/self-limiting thoughts and behaviours, which then encourages a balance in emotion.

  • Reduces stress.

  • Simple self-help tool for relaxation.

  • Lowers cortisol levels, which calms physical responses to memories and thoughts.

  • Ability to feel happier and create a more balanced way of life.

TAPPING = A CALM BODY = A CALM MIND

ALL OF WHICH =

A POSITIVE/CREATIVE DECISION MAKING,

BALANCED BEHAVIOUR & PEACEFUL WAY OF LIFE
